Student Council: We are gearing up for Election Day at Averroes Academy! Next week our candidates begin campaigning. Together, we can make our Studetn Council elections a positive learning experience for all.
Curriculum Night: This year Curriculum Night was held on Thursday, September 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Curriculum Night consists of presentations by classroom teachers outlining classroom routines and expectations with regard to curriculum areas.
9/11 Remembrance: Five students from our school, Afraaz Ahmed, Fatima Agic, Nour Abdelmonem, Yazan Nagi and Naseem Hosseini participated in the event with students from neighboring schools. Alhamdullilah, our students were the youngest children invited; yet they were very poised, confident, and polite. They truly deserved the many compliments they received on their performance and behavior! This was our chance to support the community that is home to our mosque and our school. Furthermore, this was an opportunity to let others see caring, compassionate and accepting examples of Muslims and Islam.
The Chicago Tribune Visit: A reporter was here from the Chicago Tribune to learn more about our school and Muslim children. Look for articles and photographs related to our school in September. Alhamdullilah, we made a favorable impression simply by being courteous and helpful- in other words, just by being ourselves!
Parent Teacher Council (PTC): The Parent Teacher Council met to go over by-laws and discuss officers for the upcoming year. Alhamdullilah, PTC is off to a great start with committed, creative people who have exciting plans for our children and our school. We are all looking forward to a fantastic year.
Averroes Readers’ Circle: Every morning each student will be expected to bring a book to read or look at while waiting for assembly to begin. Having the entire school read together, will inshallah, foster an interest in reading that could likely become a habit. Remember children who enjoy reading excel in school- it’s that simple.
