Fire Prevention Poster Contest: Our school participates in Northbrook’s annual poster contest each year. This has been an enjoyable experience every time, but this time we are especially exited because we have a Grand Champion Winner. The Grand Champion award is given to the best grade level poster among six to eight schools. This is over 300 students. Our champion is Zahra Ghumra in Kindergarten. Congratulations to Zahra and the winning entrants!

Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum Field Trip: Everyone at Averroes Academy took this trip on Tuesday, October 22. We saw the popular exhibit on the human body, “Grossology!”.

Chess Club: Mr. Rizwan Kadir, an Averroes Academy parent, is coordinating our first ever Chess Club! Chess Club’s “Basic Training” Camp met for four Fridays. Over 30 students from kindergarten to fifth learned to play chess or improved their skills.

Café Averroes: Café Averroes opened last week. Alhamdullilah, students and teachers had a great time. Inshallah, we are confident that next month the guest list will be very long! Together, we can show children how to make good decisions and encourage them to be their best at all times.

The Wishing Tree: Check the wishing tree to look for ways you can help your child’s classroom. With each fulfilled wish, the leaves change color. The wishing tree is also a wonderful way to help the school if you are not available during the school day. Inshallah, we hope the tree will be ablaze with fall colors.

Hot Lunch: “Jazakallahu Khayran” to Mrs. Alamanaseer, Mrs Shameilah, and Mrs. Mekki for their help with hot lunch. The food was a delicious change from our usual fare. Next we began with lunches from Shamino’s Restaurant- our thanks to Mrs. Ahmed and Mrs. Kadir for making all the necessary arrangements.

Student Council: Mashallah, the candidates hit the campaign trail in earnest this year. Based on the catchy colorful campaign posters and thoughtful speeches, Averroes Academy voters had a serious and difficult decision to make. Alhamdullilah, in the aftermath of the election the candidates were gracious and good humored about the results. Some of our local candidates would do well to learn from our students.
