Throughout February and March, Averroes Academy has not only offered a delicious bi-weekly hot lunch, but, several times, parents have underwritten the lunch. This allowed the funds collected to be used in replenishing such depleting items as recess equipment and emergency supplies. Jazakum Allahu Khayrun to all the families that have been so generous.
Café Averroes has been enjoyed by an increasing larger number of students. Children who maintain a good record throughout the month in behavior, in uniform compliance and in arriving to school on time, are invited to spend an early morning with the Principal. The children munch on light breakfast items while playing games and receiving prizes.
Students were well prepared to take their annual Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. The standardized tests covered skill areas such as Listening, Reading, Science, Vocabulary, Language, and Social Studies. Additional assessment will be done to measure students’ potential as well as achievement.
Due to recent global developments, Averroes Academy, in conjunction with the Northbrook Police department, reviewed and revised their crisis management plan and safety procedures. Together they proved that making this school a safe place to learn and grow is on of our highest priorities.
Conference day went smoothly and the parents showed wonderful enthusiasm in meeting with their children’s teachers, thus sending a clear message that the growth and personal achievement of the students is our primary mutual concern.
Nasheed al-Huda resumes for a second session due to its overwhelming popularity and support. After identifying the students’ vocal range, the instructor is now going to work on harmonizing and presentation while teaching beautiful moral lessons through the songs’ lyrics.
