Averroes Academy Student Council led the way in a fundraiser for the Asian Tsunami disaster relief. Their goal was to raise $1000 in donations and from proceeds of conducting a used book sale. Their giving spirit and concern for others was exemplary in this effort, raising over $2600!

The students marveled at the process of making glass on a trip to a glass making studio as part of the school ‘Eid celebration. Each student created their own colorful glass paperweight. With a McDonald’s lunch and classroom parties, the day was rounded out with great fun.

After school programs continue this year with two great choices. “Nasheed ul Huda” returns as a popular opportunity for students to learn to sing in a chorus. The younger students explored crafts and artistic techniques from ancient lands and times in “Young Artisans”, thus learning elements of art and history.

Our own Averroes Academy teachers conducted a Hajj activity at the Northbrook Library open to the whole community. With stories, crafts and a mini museum, children from many school districts increased their awareness of the Muslim observance of Hajj. The program was such a success that children had to be put on a waiting list to participate.
