On February 28, 2003, Averroes Academy held its 4th Annual Fund Raising Dinner. Our featured speaker was Dr. Akbar Ahmed, the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies and professor of International Relations at American University in Washington, DC. Dr. Ahmed is the author of many books on contemporary Islam, including Discovering Islam: Making Sense of Muslim History and Society and Postmodernism and Islam: Predicament and Promise. He has held senior positions in Pakistan, including Ambassador of Pakistan to England. He has been featured on several television programs, including The Oprah Winfrey Show and NBC Nightly News.
