At Averroes Academy, we envision a world where Muslims contribute to all areas of achievement and advancement with a consciousness of what being a Muslim means guiding their activities. We envision such Muslims as always striving toward an ideal that engages and embraces both Muslims and non-Muslims with respect, leading them to a more complete understanding of Islam. Our mission at Averroes Academy is to prepare students to have exemplary knowledge and understanding and to inspire them to become scholars in any field which realizes their potential as good Muslims and positive, contributing members of society. We aim to be a model institution in both educational and spiritual endeavors. Averroes Academy was named after the great Muslim jurist, physician, and philosopher Abu al-Walid Muhammad ibn Rushd (also known as Averroes), who was born in Cordoba, Spain in 520 A.H./1126 C.E. His contribution to civilization represents the apex of Muslim intellectual achievement. His most notable contributions are his treatises on Islamic jurisprudence and law, and his commentaries on Greek philosophy. These commentaries influenced European thought for centuries. Ibn Rushd's superiority in both religious and secular knowledge represents an ideal paradigm for all Muslims and is the inspiration for Averroes Academy. |
